World War I was a Great war some people may say, but others, they might say that it was a mess because of The Treaty of Versailles. Everything that the treaty did was not always beneficial to all of the nations, and some of the countries were very happy with what they had. The treaty of Versailles was getting put together by the president of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, and the Allied Powers. “Wilson wanted the charter of the League to be part of the peace treaty. The others reluctantly agreed, he became chairman of the commission to draft it. It was a fulfillment of his dream, the ultimate task of the young man with a passion of putting together constitutions, only now it was a set of rules to govern the world and not a debating club” …show more content…
“The treaty had fifteen parts and four hundred and forty articles. Part one started the New League of Nations, which did not allow Germany to join until nineteen twenty six. Part two was specific to Germany's new boundaries, and Part three made a demilitarized zone and kept the Saar from Germany for fifteen years. The fourth part got rid of all Germany’s colonies, and the fifth part reduced Germany's armed forces. All of that lead them to having certain classes of weapons meanwhile established Germany's liability for reparations without stating a specific figure and began with Article 231, in which Germany accepted the responsibility of itself and its allies for the losses and damages of the Allies "as a consequence of the war imposed upon them by the aggression of Germany and her allies." Part IX imposed numerous other financial obligations upon Germany” (The Reader’s Companion). All of these parts of the treaty have precise details and descriptions of what they all are able to do within their society. The worst part about the whole treaty is if someone wants to change it everyone has to come back together to make a revision and sign it again. His FOURTEEN POINTS outlined his vision for a safer world. Wilson called for an end to secret diplomacy, a reduction of armaments, and freedom of the seas. He claimed that reductions to trade barriers, fair adjustment of colonies, and respect for national self-determination would reduce economic and nationalist sentiments that lead to war. Finally, Wilson proposed an international organization comprising representatives of all the world's nations that would serve as a forum against allowing any conflict to escalate. Unfortunately, Wilson could not impose his world view on the victorious Allied Powers.
