The Walt Disney Company was founded by Walt Disney and Roy Disney on October 16, 1923. It has grown into a multi-billion dollar corporation. Their corporation has branches in TV and radio broadcasting, parks and resorts, cruises, hotels, movies, novelty items, and much more. They are available in more than 200 countries across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
Strategic Plan Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy (Mintzberg, Quinn, Ghosal, & Lampel, 2002). The Walt Disney Company has many strategic goals, mostly to help save the planet. These goals include reducing waste, conserving energy, and saving water. One strategic goal that The Walt Disney Company has established is to educate the public about the effects of wasting water and ways to help conserve water. One of Disney’s primary business is its media networks. Disney Channel is one of the most watched channels by children these days. They are educational and fun. Disney ensures that the commercials shown in between their programs show children ways to have a better future. They show their shows’ stars educating the viewers in commercials called “Friends for Change”. One of the commercials they show describes how to save water by “Tap it out” or turning off the faucet when you are brushing your teeth, “Plug it up” or plugging up the sink while washing the dishes, and “Stop the drip” meaning fixing any leaking faucets. These sound like very simple ideas, ideas that may not mean much if only one person does it but could be a big difference if everyone does it.
Operational Plan Living in Southern California where there is currently a severe drought, water is very significant. Any way that an enormous company, like the Disneyland Resort, could save water will be beneficial to the environment. One of the focus are of The Walt Disney Company (2015) is to “Improve water and energy efficiencies in existing operations”. The company invests in new technological advancements that would help their existing businesses conserve water and energy.
The company’s operational goal for The Disneyland Resort is to minimize water use. They have developed Water Conservation Plans to help devise a way to recycle the water they use and increase their availability of potable, or drinkable, water. Disneyland has worked with the Orange County Water District and built a way that would allow the resort to recycle the water that they use by sending it down towards their storm drains into the Groundwater Replenishment System, to be reused. The resort also equipped their bathrooms with low-flow
