For centuries, there have been many forms of literature that authors have been creating, however without a sense of reader's response, it is just a text until a reader provides their insight and attributes meaning to the text. In Timothy Findley’s novel, The Wars recounts a nineteen-year-old named Robert Ross who enlist in the war after his beloved sister Rowena had passed away to escape the grief. In the madness of the war, Robert carries out his commitment to his life amid death. However, years later archivist tries to understand how Robert Ross committed this act by interviewing people that he had encountered with. Upon the examination, this text seems to be one dimensional. However, a deeper analysis of the text illustrates more than the
