There Are No Children Here heavily demonstrates the issues surrounding the lack of quality education. The fourth goal of the SDGs is to ensure inclusive and quality education for all as well as lifelong learning, which seeks for every boy and girl worldwide to achieve primary and secondary education (United Nations, n.d.). Due to the constant violent gun battles in Chicago’s Henry Horner Homes, Pharoah developed a stutter because it was tremendously traumatic having close friends get killed, bullets shooting through their apartment and having to run home from school because there were street gang fights. The reading tests among the seniors in 1985 were in the eighteenth percentile nationwide (Kotlowitz, 1992, p. 128). More students would be willing to go to school if the rates of violence decreased and there was hope for a future. LaJoe should not have to beg Lafeyette and Pharoah not to go to school because she is scared for their safety. Individuals who have a high level of education will also have an increased socioeconomic status, therefore their health is better overall (Skolnik, 2016). Having a quality education should be seen as something easily obtainable rather than unimaginable. Education is the basis of a sustainable future, but without adequate health and safety in the community, the fourth goal of the SDGs is not
