On July 4, 1776, Thomas Jefferson along with a committee wrote the Declaration of Independence. This document was written unanimously by all Thirteen colonies who claimed were being oppressed by the British government. It was written specifically for King George who deprived the colonists of their rights, and denied them protection. Thomas Jefferson integrates the appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos to declare to King George and his advisors the reasons why Americans deserve their independence. Jefferson refers to ethos to create an image of respectable honor and knowledge for the colonists. By doing this, the reasons he provides for the creating of this document become more credible.
