Do you agree that people become less intelligent as they become increasingly secure and comfortable? Becoming increasingly secure and comfortable does not make you less intelligent. The more you are in your environment the more you become familiar with your surroundings and more educated. If you feel educated enough about your environment then you will feel comfortable in it. The time traveler was not intelligent about the future and did not feel comfortable in it. Once he learned more about the environment, species, and language he felt comfortable and secure. I do not agree that becoming increasingly secure and comfortable makes you less intelligent. If you feel relaxed you will start to learn new things about a person or a place. For example, in “The Time Machine” the time traveler feels confused and lonely in the future. He is not educated about the future so he is worried and confused and can’t feel secure and comfortable. Then he starts learning the language which helps him communicate and learning about these strange curly haired, red lips, large eyed creatures. He starts learning about the town and becomes friends with a creature named Weena. He finds out these surface creatures are called “Eloi” and have a fear of the underground creatures named “ Morlocks.” The Morlocks come out at night and hunt Eloi.
