This means that Percy has a very strong thirst for a sense of power. An example that shows this is Percy repeats the line, “I know people, I could get you fired.” This shows that Percy thinks that he is above others or thinks he has a sense of power over them. He says this line because he thinks he has a step above everyone and can do what he wants just because he “knows people.” An example of where Percy thinks he can do whatever he wants when he hits the prisoners for no reason. He smashed Ed’s fingers for no reason at all and did not feel bad about it. Another example of Percy being thirsty for power is when he wants to start doing executions. He thinks that he can do anything anyone else can but he can't. Paul and the other officers tried to warn him but he didn't …show more content…
I found no nice or genuine parts to this character. An example to prove that Percy is very disrespectful is, Percy is organizing his first execution and it is Eduard Delacroix (Ed) and Percy does not wet the sponge when you are supposed to. When wetting the sponge the water absorbs the electricity so the execution will be quicker and less painful. By Percy not wetting the sponge it caused a very slow and painful death for Ed, he burned alive. People were watching the execution and ran out in horror because Ed was actually on fire. This shows a sign of disrespect toward Ed and also Paul Edgecomb and the other officers. It is very disrespect to Ed because no one deserves the pain he had to go through. Ed was also one of the very polite prisoners, he always followed directions and never caused a scene. It was disrespectful to Paul and the other officers because Paul is usually the one that organizes the executions and Percy made a big deal and said he was qualified to do them. This was Percy's first shot and he blew it. Percy then lied and said he did not know the sponge had to be wet. There are many other examples of Percy being disrespectful but this one is by far the most
