A person who contributes to society should be open- minded and thinking about the big picture. What is being open- minded mean to me? Well, being open - minded to me is the same as having a growth mindset. A growth mindset is basically when you are open to new ideas and ways of doing things. You are able to adapt to new cultures and embrace the ways of other races. An example of this is Atticus and his trial with a Negro man from the book, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The setting takes place in the 1930’s quite a bit of time after the civil war happened and slavery had been abolished but there was still segregation. Many white men/ women still believed they were superior over other colored people, black in particular and it was hard for them to embrace this new change. However Atticus, who is a lawyer in the novel, was able to accept these changes and even put his life on the line to save a Negro man who was “allegedly” …show more content…
It is “Thinking About the Big Picture”. What do I mean by “Thinking About the BIg Picture”? Well, for one, when I talk about ‘Thinking About the Big Picture”, I am talking about a person seeing the whole community as one whole. Earlier some people argued that having an open- mind could also mean having an open - mind to do bad things to help a certain group or person. Well, if you are a person contributing to society, you not should think of the welfare of just one group, but you should also consider the welfare of everyone before you something that you think will benefit society. This is what I mean when I say “Thinking About the Big Picture”. I mean, if a person is open- minded to (for example) steal stuff to help others of their family, it is true that they are kind of contributing to society by helping those people but, overall they are just hurting society even more by causing trouble and no “Thinking About the Big Picture”. To benefit society, I believe you must be open- minded and “Think About the Big Picture” before you take action to help. I mean look at Atticus he had an open- mind and was “Thinking About the BIg
