2 / 8. Hamlet is a tragedy because there are several bad guys. Who do you think is the worst why? A tragedy is when something ends in catastrophe or death. In the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare that is exactly what happens. The main character Hamlet seeks revenge to avenge his father's death and on his mission, many people get hurt in the process. King Claudius feels threatened by Hamlet and wants to try to off Hamlet because he knows too much. The playwright Hamlet is a tragedy because the murderous King Claudius uses killing to get what he wants. King Claudius is the uncle to the young prince Hamlet, throughout the story he is made out to be the Villain of the story. Not only did his uncle poison and kill his father he also married his mother and tried to replace the dead king. Hamlet and his uncle are so consumed with trying to kill each other they do not consider the people who might get hurt because of them. The kings has a plan to put hamlet to his death by drinking the poison but hamlet does not drink it his mother does so Laertes comes in to fight Hamlet. “ Come for the third, Laertes! you but dally; I pray you pass with your best violence; i am afeard you make a wanton of me”(V. ii.).
