Everybody has a dream, something that sticks in their mind. My dream was to help people. Working short term assignments and traveling to places in demand is a normal day's work for traveling nurses. Similar to most nurses, they care for people, record information on patients charts and administer medication. From helping out with my grandma at a young age to babysitting younger children and taking care of them when I got older, I always had a need to help people. When my Grandma had a stroke and I got to help her, I couldn’t help the swell of pride when she was better, and the stricken worry that filled me when she was having bad days. I have also dreamed of traveling the world, and as a Traveling Nurse, I will be able to help people and travel. While learning about being a traveling nurse, I hope to figure out if this is the true career choice for me and if this is what I want to do after high school and for the rest of my days.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
Having education is huge stepping stone for getting a job. The remaining steps I will need to take to become a traveling nurse includes a high school diploma and completion of a accredited college nursing program. To become a traveling nurse, one must first attend a nursing school and earn, at minimum, a degree as a registered nurse (RN). Becoming a RN is competitive and takes anywhere before two to four years depending on your program and place of study. Once the credentials have been obtained, the RN must pass the NCLEX-RN exam, and then work a minimum of one year in a hospital setting in the specialty which they wish to practice.
