The United States Constitution was written to generate a specific set of rules to govern the American way of life in a way such that all people are treated equal. Years after the Constitution, the United States government built a system of Justice which governs the way American courts operate. Court cases during the civil rights era are said to have obtained peace among all citizens. Our present day Justice system mandates that like cases render similar rulings. As a result, in America today, there are several protests taking place in response to rulings in the Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin cases. History is, in fact, repetitive. In each of the previously mentioned cases, several things occurred to which demonstrates how America has in fact reverted back to old habits. On February 26, 2012 Trayvon Martin, a seventeen year old African American male, was gunned down by twenty-eight year old George Zimmerman. Known as the neighborhood watch, Zimmerman was of mixed race. Zimmerman spotted Martin, which appeared to be trespassing, walking through the neighborhood shot the unarmed teen during an altercation. Trayvon Martin, the son of Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, was a Junior at Michael M. Krop High School and lived with his mother and older brother in Miami Gardens, Florida.On the day of Martin’s fatal death, he and his father were visiting his father's fiancée and her son in Sanford, Florida. She lived in The Retreat at Twin Lakes, a multi-ethnic gated community where Martin had visited several times before. The Retreat where Martin’s death occurred consists of 260 town home units. According to Census figures, the diverse neighborhood was compromised of fourty-nine percent non-Hispanic white, twenty-three percent Hispanic, twenty percent black, and five percent Asian (CITE). Zimmerman was not only the neighborhood but lived in the community as well. According to the local police department they received over 400 hundred calls rom January of 2011 to February of 2012. Those called include theft, burglary and shooting. The continued presence of police officers in the neighborhood was said to have created a sense of fear for all
