Would you want your whole life to revolve around cultural conflict and putting others needs in front of yours? This is a problem faced by many individuals in this world. This usually happens to children who leave their hometown and move to a different country. These kids are expected to keep their culture and identity which causes many disputes between them and their parents. It's a tough decision on whether to adapt to the new culture or live a life your parents want for you. The story “Two Kinds” is about Jing-Mei and how her mother pushed her to become the next prodigy. Jing-Mei’s mother thought that you could be anything you wanted to be in the United States. Amy was motivated to turn her life around and did so in a very big way. There at Linfield College, she met Lou Demattei, her lover and have been together since. She had a double major in English and Linguistics. The murder of a roommate was an inspiration that led to Amy working in the field of disabilities. A few years down the road, Amy worked as a business writer for big companies such as IBM, Wells Fargo and AT&T where she found no real interest. To find a purpose in her life, she started to write fiction during her free time. She attended a workshop and met a writer who corrected her errored story. Amy later on became a huge success and went on to write many bestselling novels. She also took piano lessons for 15 years and went on to write for the opera “The Bonesetter's Daughter. Despite her many accomplishments,her mother didn’t live to see many of them. Her mother died of alzheimer's and two weeks later her friend died of cancer. Amy was at a dark point in life when she was suddenly diagnosed with Lyme disease a little while later. As of today, Amy’s disease is well managed.
