Tybalt's interactions with other characters advances the plot in many ways. Tybalt starts to fight with Mercutio and Benvolio. When Romeo shows up he is being nice to Tybalt, but he is being rude to him. Romeo said “Tybalt, the reason that I have for loving you helps me overcome the anger I should really feel at such an insult.(3.1.60)” and Tybalt replies with “This will not excuse the wrong you’ve done to me, turn around and draw your sword.(3.1.62)” and then Romeo replies with “I protest I never harmed you. I love you more than you can understand until you know the reason for my love.
