Nationalism can become ultra-nationalism by passing discriminatory policies. Occasionally, nationalism may result in the development of the sense of superiority over other nations and groups of people. This can lead to the creation of policies which are biased against the minority or the immigrant groups. For instance, the Japanese-Canadians during World War II were later forced into internment camps and their land was seized due to their ethnicity. This policy was the result of ultra-nationalist ideologies which considered the rights of the Japanese Canadians as detrimental to the country's security.
