The American spirit has interpreted in many different ways such, as determination, hope, and triumph. In Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie same as the people from the Gold Rush shared similar traits, determination to achieve goals and gain the gold, hopes for a better future, and triumph as a result of overcoming so many obstacles throughout his life, and most importantly the roots of where he came from. The same type of mentality of the Gold Rush immigrants played out in Louie Zamperini life. Louie came from an immigrant Italian family that traveled to America for a better life and just like the people of the Gold Rush. Also, just like the Gold Rush people Louie wanted his gold, he showed determination to make it to the Olympics and place.
