My long term goal is to become a practicing professional engineer, but in doing so, I will represent only a select fraction in the field, a Hispanic female engineer. The underrepresentation of minority women in a field predominately dominated by white Caucasian men is staggering, but none the less a reality that I have to accept.
The under representation of women minorities in the engineering field was evident during my summer at the University of California, Berkeley while I was doing research through my ReNUWIt (Re-inventing the Nation’s Urban Water Infrastructure) fellowship in 2014.
