Tension among American Politicians and Party Systems AP Seminar Word Count: 1045.

Introduction American political parties have evolved over time to construct the 21st century communities and the way that they are structured. Unified party governments are argued to be the most successful government model because they have the greatest potential for efficiency, consistency, and alignment of policy priorities. The American party system has a lot to do with the way everything has evolved to where it is today. Every day, the way our communities are structured, changes. The Great Society is a set of domestic policy initiatives, programs, and legislation. These domestic policy initiatives are actions to better these areas of domestic policies such as education, health, environment, crime, prejudice, etc. These areas are all current issues going into the 1960’s and President Johnson is working on creating a plan that will tackle all of these problems at once to create peace amongst American communities. As Ernest W. Lefever of Elizabethtown College said “Everyday in a thousand ways the commitment of our Founding Fathers to “Liberty and justice for all” is being tested.”(Lefever, 1993,p.1) With these new deals and policies the goal is to not have to test this commitment to its ability everyday. Having a unified party government may reduce the checks and balances, possibly leading to abuse of power or neglect of the people. Along with the possibility of fewer opportunities to hear alternative viewpoints in the process. [Along with] that swing state status for a given state in a given presidential election brings with it the potential reward/benefit of being the recipient of a greater real per capita federal government grant to state and local government.” (Duquette, 2017, p.11) Duquette stating that people living and voting in swing states have a greater chance of having their voice heard and make a difference. These states often receive more attention from candidates of both parties during election campaigns because winning these states in primary elections can have significant impact on the outcome of the election. Living in a swing state often correlates to more investment in the state and more campaign promises made by the presidential candidates. More funding is put into these states during election campaigns, which leads to a positive economic stance in many communities throughout the state. Conclusion The American party system is influential to the community structures of 21st century America. Political tension arises throughout the election season and has a big impact on the way Americans live their lives
