The computing innovation represented in my computational artifact is Sophia, an artificially intelligent robot. Created by Hanson robotics, Sophia says her main purpose is to “...help change the world for the better.” Sophia could be used for functions like service jobs that need a human input. My computational artifact explains Sophia’s purpose, function, and effect by showing a picture of her with captions. I believe one large photo of Sophia shows how she would work, since she is meant to work like a human. The captions add extra information about what she can do, and her design.

To create my computational artifact, I first looked at what the artifact had to accomplish with information and design. Second, I chose what kind of artifact

She can identify who people are based on their looks and their body movements with a camera. This camera uses a facial recognition system to track facial expressions and body movements. This human input is used to determine an output of how Sophia should move. If a person is holding a conservation with Sophia, Sophia can recognize their face and use this information to make eye contact. Sophia also has microphones to record what people are saying. She can determine what to say, using a voice recognition software, based off what words people say to her. Sophia is slightly like a chatbox, where she has pre-programmed responses. She does use artificial intelligence to voice her own opinions and sayings also. This human input is used to determine an output of what Sophia should say. If a person asked Sophia a question, she would be able to give a correct answer related to the topic. With these cameras and microphones, Sophia can keep up with human body movements and conservations. One privacy concern with Sophia would be what she does with the information she gathers. All the information that Sophia takes in is saved. This makes it concerning if she takes in data she was not supposed to record. What Sophia achieves with the data she collects is an amazing lifelike portrayal of a human, but with this data comes privacy
