344 Administer medication to individuals and monitor the effects 1.1 - Identify current legislation, guidelines, policies and protocols relevant to the administration of medication There are many legislations, guidelines, policies and protocols which need to be followed when administering medication. Different routes of medication may require different equipment, some examples of this are: Transdermal Administration Before administering any transdermal patches to residents, I ensure that I have hand cleaning supplies to ensure my hands are sanitized before beginning. I then ensure that I have a sanitizing wipe to make sure the individual skin is clean to allow the patch to stick to the skin and work effectively. Oral Administration When I am administering any tablets or liquids at work, I make sure I have enough clean medication cups and spoons ready to complete my medication round.
