There are four main areas in the brain that are affected by Dementia causing difficulties with their functions:
1. Frontal Lobe - this part of the brain controls behaviour, personalities, movement and the understanding of what is around us.

Temporal Lobe – this part of the brain helps to control the speech, hearing and memory.
Explain why depression, delirium and age related memory impairment maybe mistaken for dementia. Sometimes depression can be mistaken for dementia because of person behaviour and feeling of well being can change. This causes the person to appear withdrawn. However if the person is depressed then it could be depression rather than dementia causing them to be ill-being.
Delirium can happen by a cause of infection and this might be mistaken for dementia for example the person could become confused and suffer from memory loss which is also signs and symptoms of dementia.
Age related memory impairment is if someone becomes forgetful they may think or other may think that they have dementia, this is because many people associate dementia with old age and memory loss but young people can be affected too.
