It was a winter encampment in Pennsylvania for the Continental Army led by General Washington. The encampment for soldiers lasted about six months from December 19, 1777 to June 19, 1778. If I were a soldier at Valley Forge I would quit because the living conditions were terrible, and many people got sick and died. When he says he is discontented, it means that he is always unhappy and is in stressful situations all the time. This all shows that if I were to live in Valley Forge for even a day it would be so miserable, yet these soldiers stayed here for six months. According to document A, in February 1778 there were only 8000 soldiers in the campground but the illnesses affected half of the men, estimated to be 3989 sick. Also, 1800 to 2500 died in the winter from illnesses or other causes. This proves that half of the soldiers got sick and suffered, leaving 4000 behind. Also 1800 to 2500 soldiers died in the camp, which is more than a quarter of the soldiers at Valley Forge.
