Scout is the protagonist of the text and is known for being a fun,curious character as well as being a tomboy. Since she is a tomboy she gets mocked a lot for it. At the time all girls must wear dresses and act calm and like to play with dolls. Unlike Scout who wore overalls was ready to fight every person who said something about her and her family. For example in the book it stated “What are you doing with those overalls? You should be in a dress camisole, young lady!” (Lee 11) this was a conversation between a neighbor and Scout.. This was especially common among the older people as they grew up with girls wearing dresses and more “feminine” things. Wearing a dress or overalls does not change Scout as a person. "Boo was about six-and-a-half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that’s why his hands were bloodstained—if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the blood off. There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time."(Lee 1) This is what Jem perceived Boo Radley as. No one had actually seen him but by people's assumptions he is considered a monster. People are quick to judge Boo Radley because Jem heard people saying things about Boo Radley he automatically believed them. Little did he know that Boo would be the hero in the end, the person who saved Jem and Scout’s lives . A community’s opinion on a certain person or type of person affects everyone in that community.Although not all members may agree with what others are saying, it was normal at the time, no one was willing to argue against
