Arnolfini Portrait is considered one of the most original and complex paintings in Western art. It was made by Van Eyck in 1434 and is an oil portrait painting as well but it is on oak panel of 3 vertical boards. It is located in the National Gallery in London. Van Eyck used the technique of applying layer after layer of thin translucent glazes to create a painting with both tone and color. The colors highlight the realism of Arnolfini’s world and shows the wealth. Even though it is a portrait, it is full body and contrapposto isn’t used but subject’s figures and stances seem very realistic and life like. In the portrait, it is a man taking the hand of a pregnant woman. Their gowns and robes shows that they are of clear high class. The details
