Veracity of Being a Medical Doctor Who are doctors? Surely everyone in their lifetime encounters a doctor. Whether you get treated by one or simply know one based on their white coat and stethoscope, doctors are here to help! One commonly asked question would be, how does one become a medical doctor? Well, this research paper will discuss the hardships and struggles one must endure, how much aptitude and diligence is really required, and is the end result even rewarding? For those who are considering the medical field as a future career or would simply like to enhance their knowledge bye receiving answers to those questions who have kept many skeptical for a while, continue reading to be enlightened on some extraordinary aspects of the profession. Let us begin by laying out a doctor’s responsibilities. Doctors diagnose illnesses, treat injuries, give prescriptions, and advise preventative health. But how long and how much effort does it truly take to be able to have such a prestigious status in the community and the world? The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) in August 2012, found that one must obtain a medical degree by passing the MCAT. This is a multiple-choice exam that covers areas involving critical thinking, problem-solving, scientific principles and writing. It's important to perform well on this exam in order to get accepted into medical school. Attending medical school for four years after a four year a college of receiving a bachelors degree, becoming licensed. Does that mean they are done? Unfortunately, they still have a long way to go. After becoming licensed one must attain a few more years of experience by something which is called residency. In a residency, doctors will receive paid, on-the-job training. These can last anywhere from three to seven years, depending on the specialty. Residencies take place in a hospital and offer an opportunity for medical school graduates to begin treating patients under the supervision of an experienced doctor. Putting the time aside for a few minutes think of not only how much of your life will be spent in striving to put your full and undivided attention and focus making this career your primary obligation in life till you have reached your goal is the true tough part. How focused is focused? One must not let even a second go in inattentiveness. Every second is precious to medical students. Training yourself to be entertained by all the material you must comprehend isn’t always the most enjoyable thing in the world but that’s when your diligence must kick any tedious thoughts to the curb because doctors may need to have the dexterity to perform procedures, stamina to make rounds, problem-solving ability to figure out medical diagnoses, and interpersonal skills to communicate with patients and other medical professionals. After obtaining a bachelors degree, passing the MCAT and getting accepted into medical school which is inevitably competitive, the student needs to become licensed. Doctors must pass the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE).
