In years after the Vietnam War a study was done to show how many soldiers had effects of PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder. “Although the vast majority of Vietnam Veterans had readjusted to civilian life smoothly, 15.2% of male and 8.5% of female theater Veterans had PTSD 15 or more years after their service” (PTSD). These findings are a direct repercussion due to the war and violence that Vietnam soldiers faced. The research also showed that there were four specific types of PTSD: late onset PTSD, chronic PTSD, early recovery from PTSD, and late recovery from PTSD. “Soldiers that had higher combat war stress were four times more likely to suffer from PTSD” (PTSD). Soldiers that suffered from combat war stress also dealt with major depression, alcohol abuse, and other postwar problems.
