War Brothers – The Message
We finally stopped to set up camp for the night after a long day of walking. Even though the killings happened hours before, I could still smell the blood, from the deaths of innocent people. It made me feel sick to think of all the lives that were taken. Those people didn’t pose any threat to the soldiers but they were still killed. The soldiers are cold, heartless people.
I haven’t had anything to eat or drink in a long time. It made me feel sick. Watching the soldiers devour their food just made me feel even hungrier. The thought of having to kill people to eat was just wrong. I knew I couldn’t do that and it may mean I would starve to death. We worked for a

That’s it? There has to be more. After hearing that message on the radio we sat, in the darkness, frightened and confused. The men of the LRA started laughing. I’m confused because I didn’t find anything funny about it. Even if I were to think of it from their point of view I still find nothing funny about it. They keep the electricity on even when no one is around. Can you believe that?” Paul says trying to cheer me up, but it doesn’t really help.
I wish I could be like Paul and one day get travel to America, but all I can think about now is that we’re going to get killed. Norman thinks the same way I do. He asks,
“No one is coming for us?”
“Norman, Listen to me, it’s going to be alright. My father can’t save us, the Government soldiers can’t or won’t save us. We have no choice, we have to save ourselves.” I say.
I really believe what I just said to Norman and now we need to come up with a plan to save ourselves. At this point we’re going to get killed if we sit around doing nothing.
“You mean we escape? But how?” Norman asks me.
“I don’t know yet, Maybe Hannah can help us.” I say in an unsure voice. “She cuts up food for the commander and serves them. She is ignored and therefore invisible, but she isn’t deaf. Maybe she has information on our location” I
