The operation provided many benefits for Charlie Gordon. Not only could he read and write better, but he also began to realize how cruel the world truly was. Unaware at first Charlie soon realized how other people looked at him and how his “friends” were treating him. It slowly dawns on him, but before long he realizes the importance of love and friendship. Beginning to see rationally Charlie is suddenly faced with how society works. Was the operation a success? No not by far but here are some advantages the operation gave him. One of the main reasons Charlie should have undergone the operation is that he would understand relationships. Learning what love meant to him was a huge step in his intellectual thinking and it gave him something to yearn for. His fellow factory workers also started to realize that he was becoming smarter. However, due to fact that he still hadn’t figured out what they were doing to him, they decided to pull another trick. Later the workers take him to a bar, and laugh at him for his retardness, he suddenly figures out that they weren’t his friends and they never were. Soon after, the workers sign a petition to have him fired. Not only is Charlie sad over this, he is also begins to understand how others really treated him. The scientists could use the information from Charlie and Algernon for future experiments. On the other hand Charlie does revert to his original state, and algernon dies, but they help advance science. Not only that but Charlie himself publishes a paper which probably makes him proud, and it helps science advance. Charlie gave up his intellect to help all the future patients and scientists because of this future scientists will appreciate the work he has done.
