It has the ability to change one's morality. When hearing about the hardship, and struggles of someone, one is able to reflect on their life, and compare the differences between the story being told and their own. Knowing that people in less fortunate parts of the world are struggling with major issues make the everyday complaints of people living in first-world countries seem foolish. The differences in living circumstances causes one to realize how privileged they are, and that the freedom and power they hold has the ability to change the lives of others. People in third-world countries don’t have the freedom of learning, receiving water instantly, or going to the doctor when they are ill. Listening to the depictions of horrible living conditions at We Day makes one feel responsible and motivated to use their position of privilege to help improve the livelihoods of others. Hearing the stories told at We Day makes one wonder how they are able to help others in difficult situations. However, many people are oblivious to the opportunities that are available, or unaware of the current global circumstances. Luckily, We Day uses youth to connect with other young people in hopes that they will be able to relate to one another, feel motivated, and empowered. The speakers at We Day enlighten the audience about the local and global issues we face today, and empower youth across the globe by giving them the tools to make a difference about these current issues.
