I already knew that Welding is a job mostly for men. I knew that you have to weld pieces together and that it involves a welding gun and different tools (I think) and you have to wear a helmet because the fire from the gun is so bright that it could blind you. My research began with DISCUS. My teacher, Mr. Jett, taught us how to use an annotated bibliography. The purpose of an annotated bibliography is to keep track of where your information comes from. I found that difficult because I didn't fully understand what exactly I had to do for the annotated bibliography. I didn’t accomplish a lot on my first day of research. However, I did find a really good article that helped me answer the first question I have, which is, what exactly is welding? It has taught me that first while writing a research paper you need to choose a topic that you are really interested in. I also learned that you need to pick a research question. A question that is not to narrow that you can answer with one sentence, or a very broad question that you could write a book on.
After forming your research question, now it's time to look for the answers. I learned that DISCUS is a really good source and it has almost everything on the site to find all the answers to your question. Sometimes, Google is a really good source also, to find additional questions. It is important when using Google to use EasyBib to create MLA citations.
I feel the most important thing I learned while writing this research paper is how to sort my findings in my paper. For example, my What I Discovered part on my research paper. It starts with the thesis statement, which is to help me answer my research question and provide reasons about that topic, that I will talk about in my body paragraphs. In each of my body paragraphs, I will need to use parenthetical citations. I learned that I have to use that whenever I state an exact quote, or at least state the person’s name to not
