With the question regarding conflict and change within an individual, Macbeth in Macbeth is an outstanding example. The soldier in Act One, Scene Two, had called Macbeth “brave,” for lack of a better term, and noble. And while these words described Macbeth up to a certain point, his one glaring flaw, and ultimately the downfall of him, was his greed. With the witches giving Macbeth the prophecy, something in him broke. That something was the idea that he wanted power and while not inherently greedy, Macbeth was weak to the whims of women. Lady Macbeth, the instigator of Macbeth’s change in character, was swayed by the idea of being queen and in turn gave all her good to the darkness to become a terrible and ruthless person. With these events happening, she insulted Macbeth and promises that she would do terrible things for him.
