When the new world was discovered, there were three main European colonies: Spanish, French and English. There are many key differences between Spanish, French and English. There were differences in religious views, economic, political and social structures which made distinct cultures and experiences faced in North America.

The Spanish wanted to maintain a strong central authority as well as maintain control of extracting valuable resources such as agricultural products, gold, silver and spices. Spanish colonies were dominated by Catholicism and had a strong emphasis on conversion of the indigenous people of North America.

The French’s main objective was to explore and trade, they traded valuables such as fur, fish and agricultural goods.
