This major event in American history started in the winter of 1786-1787 in Mass. Daniel Shays was a former army captain, after the war his life became extremely difficult and he saw poor farmers like himself that serve during the revolutionary war being sent to debtor prisons and many families were left without husbands and fathers. Many women were forced to bag in the street for food and money. Daniel feared that he would lose his land and animals to supports his family. The idea of losing the family property and working for someone else was more than economic decline, but also represent a lower status in society.
