The first characteristic of being a tragic hero is nobility of character. Nobility of character is if the hero, or heroin in this case, has a good heart. Jocasta has three ways of nobility. She is the sister of the king of Creon, which makes her the princess of Creon. She is the wife of the late king of Thebes, which makes her the queen of Thebes. Finally, she is the wife of the new king of Thebes, Oedipus, who is also the runaway prince Corinth. However, she does not have a pure heart. She thinks of herself and only herself. Pride is when the character thinks they are greater than someone or something, usually the Gods. Jocasta’s pride happens when she thinks she can outwit a prophecy, which states that her son will kill her husband and then her son will then marry his mother, by connecting his ankles together and abandoning her son in the woods. Tragic error is the deed that causes bad luck to emerge, this is usually when free will takes place. Her tragic error happens when she gave the job of abandoning her child in the woods to another person instead of doing it herself. Severe downfall is when the character makes the greatest mistake that cannot be undone.
