“I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free,” -Michelangelo Buonarroti. Michelangelo was one of the best painters and sculptors of the Italian Renaissance. He had a long-lasting life, living until the age of 88. During his career, he worked a lot with the Medici. He had many achievements in his life, including his two most famous sculptures; David and Pietá. The world of art today would be very different if Michelangelo had not been alive.
Michelangelo was born on March 6th, 1475 in Caprese, which is today known as Caprese Michelangelo. The generations of his family before him had originally been small-scale bankers in in Florence. Although, his father, Lodovico di Leonardo di Buonarroti di Simoni, failed to maintain its status, holding to occasional government jobs. Several months after Michelangelo had been born, his family returned to Florence, where he was raised. His mother had died from illness when Michelangelo was just six years old, leaving him to live with a stonecutter and his wife.

Here he created his first two sculpture reliefs; Madonna Della Scala (Madonna of the Stairs) and Battaglia dei Centauri (Battle of the Centaurs). Before the age of 30, he had created his two most famous statues, David and Pietá. While he was attending the academy, his art and outlook were influenced by the best philosophers and writers of his time. Some of these included Marsilio Ficino, Pico della Mirandola, and Poliziano. Throughout his lifetime, Michelangelo had always been upset and dissatisfied with himself, leaving him to be arrogant with others
