Unoka, the father of Okonkwo was always a man that was lazy and improvident. He died ten years ago but left a bad reputation for himself. He was in debt with everyone in the village and Okonkwo was ashamed of him, but he did have some characteristics that were great but in Okonkwo's perspective and the villagers they considered him as a “loafer” which meant he seemed like a woman. “ If a child washed his hands he could eat with kings (Achebe 8)”. Okonkwo being a well known man, clearly didn’t become like his father and so he ate with the kings. But as Okonkwo tried so hard not to become like his father, he never did showed weakness.
