Who Is One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest?

When a movie wins an Oscar, it has an above average chance to go down in history. When it wins multiple Oscars, those chances increase. When it wins best picture, those chances are all but a guarantee. When it is one of only three films to ever win the big five Oscars, it is a sure thing. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, that sure thing, is not quite as sure of a thing when it comes to watching it.
This film follows R.P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson), a rogue who has fallen into trouble with the law yet again. This time, he pleads insanity and winds up in a mental institution for evaluation. Once there, McMurphy’s rebellious spirit causes him to rebel against the authoritarian Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher) and breath some life into the bland patients.
Aside from winning the big five Oscars, and maybe even more than that, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest earns a reputation for featuring a fantastic performance from Jack Nicholson. It deserves this reputation. Nicholson is nothing short of perfect in the role, pulling off the crazy side of his character with an ease that would become a hallmark as his career

This story moves at the proper pace, briskly but not hurriedly. It also couldn’t help but be compelling given the subject matter, lead character and endearing supporting players. With that being said, I could not find this movie 100 percent engaging. I’d say it had me at approximately 80 percent engaged. There were times I found myself leaning farther forward in my seat, and I definitely cared about the characters. Nevertheless, I never found myself totally engrossed in this film. Perhaps it was because I knew the ending (which I found poignant but not as moving as I expected), but I could never get absolutely on board with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s
