Juliet becomes very sorrowful, which triggers Paris to move the wedding date forward, which pressures Juliet to make this quick decision. As Juliet talks to Friar Laurence about the wedding she says, “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, From off the battlements of yonder tower” (Shakespeare 255).
Juliet is saying that she would rather die over marrying Paris. Juliet, with help from Friar Laurence, chose to fake a death to get out of marrying Paris. Everyone had a part in Juliet’s fake death, which led to the spiraling of misfortunate events. Bad timing led to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. When Juliet was put into a death-like sleep, a letter was supposed to be sent to Romeo, to explain what was going on, and to give plans for the waking of Juliet. Friar Laurence gave the letter to Friar John, who was unable to send it due to sickness in Mantua. When Friar John returns the letter, he says, “I could not send it - here is it again- Nor get a messenger to bring it here, So fearful were they of infection” (Shakespeare 269).
Because of the sickness in Mantua, Romeo did not receive the letter that said that Juliet was alive. When Romeo went to visit Juliet before taking his final breath, he talks about how beautiful she is,
