Mark Pagel, professor of evolutionary biology at the University of Reading, is one of these people. Pagel, and many others, say that AI is good for “long monotonous tasks” which they perform better than humans. Self-interest, or lack thereof, is a big argument for the development of AI. Beings that possess self-interest are beings that want to stay alive and machine lack this desire to stay alive. A machine does not worry about being unplugged. Pagel even argues that machines are inherently selfless and can easily cooperate with one another. Instead of blindly praising AI, Pagel acknowledges the risks, but he believes that humans are the real cause for concern. Humans are more likely to make a mistake than a machine and if there is a fault in the programming, then there is no way to blame the machine because it didn’t program
