I started playing basketball around the age of three or four. My dad was the one who first put the ball in my hands and I fell in love with the game instantly. I joined my first team when I was 5 years old. My team was at the YMCA, we were called the bulldogs. I played with that team until I was in 3rd grade and I’m still friends with my teammates today. Basketball have allowed me to meet many people and allowed me to make many great friends. The placed it helped me the most was in high school. I attended public elementary and middle school, but at the end of my 8th grade year, my parents told me that I would be attending John Paul II High School, I private school about 25 minutes from my house. Basketball was the first thing to teach me that success is not given, but worked for. In 7th grade, I committed myself on being the best player I could be. I started eating healthy and practicing everyday. Basketball also made me commit myself to things off the court, like school and how I spend my free time. I learned that instead of watching 2 hours of TV on Sunday morning and doing my homework that afternoon, I could turn off the TV and finish my homework in the morning so I can play basketball in the afternoon. Basketball taught me how to manage my time and to know what is important. It kept me from getting into trouble, because I knew that if I was fooling around in the classroom then coach would bench me. Basketball disciplined me and gave me the confidence I have
