Have you ever worked a twelve hour shift and not been able to take break, use the restroom or eat a meal? If you are a nurse, you probably encountered this problem on multiple occasions. Short staffs, lack of breaks, long hours and hospitals cutting cost are some of the reasons causing nurses to burnout from bedside care in hospitals. Can we prevent our nurses from nurse burnout and are we forcing nurses to leave bedside nursing and the profession altogether?
There are more than 3 million nurses in the United States. An average of 33.5% new registered nurses leaves bedside nursing within the first 2 years. That means the number of nurses leaving bedside care is about a third. Have you heard of any other profession with that high of a turnover
