Why do people pay thousands of dollars for a face lift? Good question!
Before I answer that question, let's examine the definition of plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is the reconstructive or restoring the appearance of the function of specific body parts. Plastic surgery is considered to be an "elective surgery" because it is not something usually doesn't require urgent attention such as cancer. Since it is an "elective surgery" most insurance plans don't cover the costs that are associated with this type of surgery. Hence, it can be very expensive for an individual to do cosmetic surgery - the costs ranges to thousands to tens of thousands of dollars depending upon the surgery.
There are different types of surgeries, but the types surgeries that I will briefly discuss are face lifts and eyelid surgery. It is important to note that fees are paid prior to the procedure. Sometimes the consultation is deducted from the procedure. Another important note when doing plastic surgery is to ensure that your surgeon is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has a membership in ASAPS. But, it is most important to entrust your body with the surgeon that you feel most comfortable.

It is important to note that a facelift will make a younger looking version of yourself. Sometimes, a secondary procedure may be needed to follow up the initial procedure. This secondary procedure can cost more time and more money. The average cost of a facelift is $6,556 according to 2013 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
