It shows that being forced to maintain a certain GPA builds good habits that help later on. By having student athletes maintain a certain GPA, it can put too much stress on them. When athletes have to worry so much about getting their grades up in a short time outside of their sport, it can cause pressure and stress for them. “The GPA requirements can put a lot of pressure on young students who are expected to perform highly both on the field and in the classroom” (Wisevoter). When students have the stress of performing on the field and in the classroom, it can cause them anxiety and create struggles. Although creating this stress on students can be viewed as an issue, when thinking about the good habits it creates for them, it is overall simulating real-world situations for after-school life. When forcing students to maintain a GPA, it gives them a second career path if their sport does not work out. If athletes did not care about their grades, there would be no backup plan for them to turn to. “With set requirements to play, students can acquire higher grades that will help them gain admittance into higher education and give them another avenue through which they could build a career”
