I was knocked down, passed out cold as the ref was counting to 10, there was a minute left, it was the national kickboxing youth championships of 2024, and my opponent had punched me so hard that I was seeing everything triple as I was getting back up. I was 16 years old and 70kg while my opponent was 18 and 85kg, it seemed as if the odds were against me and I had already been knocked out. But I didn’t care how hurt and tired I was, I stood back up for 8 seconds, continued fighting my opponent and won the match; but what led me to this situation anyway? Just imagine being known as the overweight kid throughout your whole life, always being the last to be picked for the football team, the kid girls used to ask out as a joke, the kid that was constantly made fun of by others just because he loved eating food. …show more content…
I desperately wanted to lose weight as I would be shamed by others and I deeply hated the way I looked to the point where I wanted to commit suicide. So I decided to start a weight loss journey, and what better way to start that than with kickboxing? I went and trained every week with my friend Anar, he supported me throughout the whole journey and in the span of 5 months, I lost 40 kilograms. No one noticed me throughout my journey or believed in me, besides my friend Anar, I love him and I look up to him very much and call him everyday while he's living life wonderfully in New Delhi, India. Most people assumed that it was impossible for them to lose weight, especially for someone that weighed over 100 kilograms most of their life. Look at me now; 70 kg and competing in kickboxing and muay thai as a hobby. Three times a week I would give in more than my body could, going consistently, ignoring how I felt and training anyway.
