Casablanca is a film that holds up today, but cannot be made in this day and age. Casablanca uses one of the only black characters as a prop in Rick's club to serenade an ex-girlfriend, and as a pro-war film at a time when support for the war was declining, it would not be as popular. Along with the blatant sexism shown throughout, Casablanca would not show the same success as a modern film as it did in 1942. One of the main reasons this film is still appreciated is the time period it was made. These things are more acceptable. In a time during WWII where many people were starting to go against the government's involvement. The lighting is dim and the background noise is loud, these factors make this a private, intimate conversation that is not to be overheard.
