The goal of assisted suicide is to prevent the pain that an individual is feeling from continuing. Suicide is by no means seen as the right thing to do, and will never be the right thing to do. The problem with this act of killing is that it is putting happiness versus suffering ahead of life itself. Many people can argue that if suffering in life, is not worth living and the truth is that suffering occurs daily. The act of Euthanasia is focusing too much on the suffering and not enough of how we deal with suffering with positive thinking and focus. People that are very faith-based have strong morals, which allows them to make rational decisions that coincide with their beliefs. Christianity, like many other religions, is against suicide and have strong moralistic views against that doing. Gary L. Thomas views his opinion on assisted suicide by stating, "This dialectic is woven through Scripture's narrative from Adam's first breath in the garden to sanctions against killing after the Flood, to the prohibition against murder in the Ten Commandments and, not least, to the significance of an empty tomb”(Thomas). It should be the patient’s choice whether they should end their life prematurely or not. The patient’s right to die, should be respected according to the regulations of any hospital as well as the constitution. The fourteenth amendment allows a patient to have the privacy to die any way they wish, and that includes Euthanasia. Many will agree that an individual should be able to choose how they will live or how they will die. A person that has suffered with pain for a majority of their life, should be able to have Euthanasia as an option to end their
