The Jerusalem council was important because it confirmed that Jesus was the only way to be saved. Some argued that the only way to be saved was to become a Jew, by getting circumcised. Peter and Paul argued that God never told them to circumcise the Gentiles when God himself gave them the Holy Spirit. James the leader of the Jewish Christian church agreed it was not a necessity to be circumcised to be saved. Since God did not tell Peter or Paul to circumcise the Gentiles the saved who received the Holy Spirit we can agree the right decision was made. This was important for the spread of Christianity for two reasons, one the right doctrine was being preached, Jesus is the way, and two the Gentiles
