Is Middle Eastern Profiling Ever Justified?
Ever since the terror attacks of September 11, racial profiling has been a commonplace occurrence in determining security concerns. In the recent years, however, this method of profiling people has been taken to the extreme. The definition of racial profiling is a practice that targets people for suspicion of crime based on their race, ethnicity, religion or national origin. Although the United States claims that they "don't see color" when determining possible threats to national security, racial profiling is still an issue plaguing our society.
Racial profiling happens every single day. On a small scale, an example of this would be kicking a Muslim passenger of a plane because they made others feel a fear for their safety. On a large scale, this would be falsely accusing middle eastern people of attacks related to terrorism. This form of abuse …show more content…
There are so little terrorists compared to the amount of innocent people in the world that trying to profile who is and is not a terrorist is a waste of time. One cannot determine that someone is a terrorist just by looking at them, which is why racial profiling is so flawed. When there is so much emphasis placed on persecuting a small group of people, there are more opportunities for the true terrorists to slip through the cracks and cause harm. There is no statistical proof or evidence that racial profiling helps deter terrorism. However, there are still many advocates for this. Why? To put it simply, America is racist. If someone doesn't have blonde hair and light eyes, they are immediately labeled as foreign. To have somebody near that is wearing typical middle eastern attire would give most people anxiety. Is racism really so deeply engrained in some people that they way somebody is dressed could cause such intense feelings of unease? The answer is
