Tanner Hylton Professor Payne English Composition II, 10 March 7, 2024 Natural Grass is Bad for Sports High school and College athletes whenever they play on grass feel as if they are at a higher risk of injury. They have a higher chance of slipping and causing something to break and tear, a higher chance of concussion, as well as a bigger chance of getting feet caught in the mud and popping something out of place. All of these are very harmful to the body and don’t seem to show any signs of change. To get a better understanding of if this is a natural opinion for others, I sent out a survey, to people that will be kept anonymous, on whether they have gotten injured in any of the ways listed above and see the results. Also, around 33 percent of players have suffered a concussion while playing on the turf. These results seem very scary to me. Too many times are people getting harmed from playing on grass fields. From another perspective, the article Severity of Match-Related Soccer Injuries, created an observation over a six-year/season period on the difference in injuries from FieldTurf to Natural Grass. “A total of 765 collegiate matches were evaluated for game-related soccer injuries sustained while playing on FieldTurf or natural grass”(Meyers 711). This took a lot of time to set up, having to talk to a bunch of colleges to let them observe some of their games, look over each player for injuries, watch film to check everything. This has a lot of information that is very crucial to know about the differences in fields causing injuries. From Table 1, it shows that out of the 380 matches played on Field Turf, 268 total injuries were observed. While for natural grass, 454 injuries were recorded out of 385 games played (Meyers 711). This is showing that more injuries can happen on real grass. This makes a lot of players and teams want to play on it less and
