Why Is Shakespeare Important To Me

Shakespeare, to me, is one of the greatest playwrights and most inspirational people of all time. Simply reading his works- from his sonnets to his tragedies but, especially, his comedies- offers me a marvelous session. His writing is remarkably witty and incredibly well spoken. Not many other playwrights can give me a feeling of satisfaction after reading their plays.
Naturally, then, when I had heard that there was going to be a Shakespeare class, I immediately joined. The first semester wasn’t much since we only read three of his plays, but I enjoyed reading and acting out the scenes during class. Finally, when the second semester came, everyone was consumed by questions what play we were going to do, what characters would we be rewarded with, and how would we do all our rehearsals? The day for auditions came. I was ecstatic to see on the email that I received the part of Corrin and another role. When I read As You Like It, Corrin was one of my favorite characters because he was just an old shepherd but was still able to be an influential part of the drama. After seeing the email, I looked at my schedule and wrote down everything I needed to know for the first rehearsals. The next day, all the actors went to the classroom to get the fully edited script from our director. During the remainder of the whole class, we went through the whole script with everyone just reading their lines. Finally, by the end of that class, we got our full rehearsal schedule for the next semester. The schedule was extremely thorough and was basically how we lived for the next four months.
