Why Is There So Many Voices In America

America is made up of many different voices. Each voice sings their own song and tells their own story. Everyone has a voice and everyone should be able to use their voice to speak out. But, the reality of it is, some voices in America are more heard than others or some are not heard at all. The value that society has put on the voices is mostly dependent on income, skin color, and immigration.
Firstly, some voices are silenced or unheard because the people are considered low-income. One example of this is in the Appalachian Mountains. The inhabitants of this area are usually part of the white working class. According to some polls, their children are expected “to live less prosperous lives” (Vance). This shows that they are not taken care of mostly because they are in the working class. They are not treated the same as someone of the higher upper class. That could be either not having access to good education, good healthcare, clean sanitation, clean food and water, and adequate shelters/homes. Thus, the people of low-income communities are silenced so they do not get their basic necessities.

One example of this is from the rap group N.W.A. This rap group was all black. They tried using their right of free speech by showing how they were being oppressed by the police and the government. Police all over the nation and even the FBI tried to silence the rap group’s voice. This shows that the police and the government tried silencing all the things that the group tried speaking out on. This was most likely because of the group being all black. The police did not want to let the group reveal the wrongdoings that they were committing.
